Bob Dogan

Chicago Pianist Bob Dogan has been playing and composing jazz since the mid-1950's. The fine tenor sacophonist, composter and arranger, Gordon Brisker wirtes, "To me, Bob Dogan has always been the quintessential jazz musician. You can hear it in his voice when he talks, see it in his gate when he walks, and damn sure feel it in the way he plays and composes."

Bob Dogan has had a rich and varied playing career. He studied piano with Jackie Byard at the Berklee School of Jazz in Boston from 1956-1958 and played piano with the big bands of Buddy Rich and Maynard Ferguson. After settling in Chicago in the 1960's Dogan worked with the groups of Ira Sullivan and Gene Shaw. He returned to Boston in the 1980's to teach at the Berklee School. Since 1988 Bob Dogan has been back in the Chicago area freelancing with numerous jazz groups, playing solo piano, and leading his own band through his arrangements of standards and original compositions.
