JEANNIE TANNER JEANNIE TANNER, Chicago Entertainer

Chicago vocalist, trumpeter and composer Jeannie Tanner has always loved writing and performing her own music. She combines her original compositions with deft abilities on trumpet, highlighted by her smooth yet funky jazz stylings; and, exudes a sexy, sultry vocal delivery that leaves listeners craving more. Ms. Tanner's innovative arrangements of jazz standards and classics make her a crowd pleaser.

"... Her singing is as lyrical as her trumpet playing but more subtle and delicately nuanced. The silvery quality of her vocal tone, the pliancy of her rhythms and the originality of her compositions attest to her depth as a jazz musician..." Howard Reich, CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Though a native of Houston, Texas, Ms. Tanner considers herself a Chicagoan; but attributes her eclectic tastes to having lived all over the U.S. Growing up, her father worked for the government, so she has traveled from sea to shining sea. And, she has an innate appreciation for all genres of music including gospel, R&B, blues, Latin, reggae, rock, blue grass and classical -- just to name a few.

Tanner's 2007 release, TANNER TIME, showcases Tanner's ability to blend these different styles into her own, unique JAZZ sound, which is a fusion of jazz, R&B, pop and Latin rhythms. The c.d. was recorded April 28th & 29th, 2007 at Steve Yates Recording in Morton Grove, Illinois. It was recorded with a live feel as the ensemble recorded 15 songs in 14 hours (over a 2-day period). When listening to TANNER TIME, one definitely gets the feeling you are at one of Ms. Tanner's shows, where on stage, she can "swing it and she can bring it" (LA Review).

The musicians who recorded with Tanner on TANNER TIME are also featured in the YOUTUBE video. They include some of Chicago's finest talent: Lisa McQueen (piano), Carol Rand (bass), Darlene Dufay (drums), Neal Alger (guitar) and Michael Hesiak (sax).

TANNER TIME (Tanner Time Records, 2007) was Tanner's follow-up to Those That Lie in Between (Darwin Records, 2005). TANNER TIME highlights Ms. Tanner's original music, along with her arrangements of "I Got Rhythm," "Bernie's Tune," "At Last," Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith" & B.B. King's "Rock Me Baby."

TANNER TIME was on the voting list for Grammy ballot consideration in nine categories, including Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best instrumental Solo (December, 2007).

To promote the release of TANNER TIME, the release party was held at the Cubby Bear across from historic Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Jeannie Tanner Quartet performed live on the ABC Sunday Morning News and, opened for Tony Orlando at Pheasant Run in St. Charles. The quartet then added great follow-up performances at Pete Miller's in Evanston and Andy's in Chicago, along with a festival appearance at the Halsted Street Market Days.

Tanner continues to showcase her talents in the Chicago area at clubs such as Andy's Jazz Club, Pops for Champagne, Pete Miller's (Evanston, Wheeling & Schaumburg), Marie's Restaurant in Chicago, Aleks' Restaurant in Lake Bluff and many other fine venues.

The Jeannie Tanner Quartet recently headlined the Best Buy Stage at the 2008 Taste of Chicago, featuring Lisa McQueen (piano), Cory Biggerstaff (bass) and Darlene Dufay (drums). The quartet is back in the studio and Tanner's new c.d. PROMISE ME THE MOON is scheduled to be released in early fall of 2008.

Tanner is currently working on performing in jazz festivals around the world and a European tour in 2008/2009. Tanner is a member of NARAS and ASCAP. She has won ASCAP Composer Awards for the past ten years.

Tanner has composed music for film and t.v., including her first film score for an indie feature that was entered into the Sundance Film Festival. Music from one of her previous c.d.s Out of the Blue was used on the PBS cooking show Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert. Tanner has also performed the National Anthem for the Chicago White Sox, Cubs and Bulls.

TANNER TIME c.d.s are available at live shows, on-line and at area Best Buy stores.
