Laury Shelley

It wasn't expected that night when Laury Shelley was asked to sit in and sing a few songs with featured artists Joe Vito on piano and the Legendary Johnny Frigo on jazz violin. It became one of those indelible moments that people remember and talk about for years.

Another moment was when Laury Shelley asked Grammy & Academy Award winning composer, Michel Legrand if she could sing for him. His brilliant scores range from movies such as “The Summer of 42”, “Brian’s Song”, “The Thomas Crown Affair” and the Academy Award winning score for Barbra Streisand’s “Yentl”.

For the next five and a-half years, as Legrand’s soloist, Laury Shelley sang everywhere with symphonies; on bills with Tony Bennett, Buddy Rich, Cleo Laine, John Dankworth, performed and recorded with jazz greats Phil Woods, Ron Carter, Grady Tate, Randy Brecker, Joe Beck and also performed at Carnegie Hall with Legrand, where Lena Horn came backstage to praise her.

Known for always working with the finest array of musicians in Chicago including: Vijay Tellis-Nayak, Jeremy Kahn, David Gross, Alejo Poveda, Mark Colby, Kelly Brand, Kelly Sill, Steve Eisen, Eric Hochberg, Chris Siebold, Bob Rummage, Phil Gratteau, Tom Muellner, Jim Cox, Tim Davis, Mark Beringer and Ernie Adams.

In addition to singing many commercials, Laury displays enormous range and versatility. Standards, jazz, rock, R & B. She sings everything.

Across all musical genres ... Laury Shelley gives an incredible performance.

QUOTES:

“Every once in awhile a voice appears and you wonder, who is that? A voice that is both startling and breathtaking. A Sarah Vaughn or a Barbra Streisand, whose "instrument" is on such a high level that it leaves you stunned. A resonance that lasts longer in your head as you let it wash all over you. A story teller with a magnificent way of communicating . Such a vocalist is Laury Shelley. Laury has sung with some of the giants in the business. This is someone you need to experience to see what I'm talking about.
This is a world class singer!”

Mark Colby
Formerly with jazz legend Maynard Ferguson

"I worked with Laury with Michel Legrand - and you don't work with him unless you can produce! - listening to her now, I am reminded about those halcyon days. Like a fine wine Laury is better than ever!"

Phil Woods
