"Jazz Hit" / The Joel Spencer Quartet: This 1986 date finds the Joel Spencer Quartet in a "live" recording session at the famed Chicago music club "OZ", as the seven selections heard on this date were all "first takes" played to a packed house! Simply put, the quartet is on fire throughout!! Not long after this recording, the group performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival playing for a "live" audience of over 25,000 people while broadcasting "live" on NPR heard over 250 cities throughout the country. Just recently (12/2008) the track of "Theme From Mannix" from this CD has been receiving national airplay on XM Satellite Radio- check out Kocour's incredible artistry on the Hammond Organ and Spencer's spellbinding extended brush solo on this one!
