On the January 5, 2010 This is Chicago Jazz Radio Show with Mike Jeffers, Jeffers plays local Chicago jazz music by such artists as Ben Neuman, John Moulder,, Nicole Mitchell, Dave Ness, and Joel Spencer. Mike Jeffers and Charley Krebs along with the producer Chicago Sessions owner Nick Eipers discuss Howard Reich’s article in the Chicago Tribune about the 2010 Chicago Jazz wish list and add a few of their own.
They also discussed the legendary closing of the Pump Room in Chicago and jazz in hotels throughout Chicago.
The second half of the show features an interview with Chicago drummer Joel Spencer. He discusses how he got his start in music. His performances with Wayne Shorter, Eddie Harris, Barbra Streisand,and many others. Plus Joel also discusses his thoughts on playing and being creative in your playing. As well as how important jazz education is to the younger generation.
