Nick Schneider is a long-time musician's musician on the Chicago music scene. He's played bass behind some of the heaviest names in the jazz world, has a sound that is instantly recognizable, and knows more tunes than practically anyone. Older jazz fans know him from countless gigs with virtually anyone and everyone who leads a band in Chicago. Younger guys know him from Bruce Oscar's oft-lamented jam sessions at the Viking in west suburban Winfield. So, when I heard that Nick was coming out with a CD, the first words that came out of my mouth were, Well, it’s about time!
Schneider put together a fantastic band for this outing. Save for reedman Eric Schneider (no relation), there are no other "household names" on this disc. But they all should be. Guitarist Dan McIntyre is a fantastic player who makes his instrument sing, both in an accompanying role and as a soloist.
