The daytime portion of this non-competitive jazz festival that brings in 45 high school and junior high jazz ensembles for participation will close with a 4 p.m. concert by the Army Blues jazz ensemble from Washington, DC.

If you live within a few miles of New Trier you can hear it in stereo on WNTH (88.1 FM) Jim Warrick, director of the New Trier jazz program, is taking early retirement at the end of this school year. He began this festival the year after he took over the jazz program in 1982 and it has grown from six bands to the forty-five that will perform this year in what he calls a "highly non-competitive" environment.
"I believe it is most important for the kids to be the trophies rather than have kids chasing trophies with their musical skills", Warrick says.
"Music isn't a competitive sport and turning into a competition disrespects its glory." To see the live internet broadcast from 8:30 am. to 10:00 p.m., go to NTJazz.com.
