On Saturday, February 5th, 2011, New Trier High School will host the 28th annual Frank Mantooth Jazz Festival, featuring The Mingus Big Band! The festival is renowned throughout the country as a first-class jazz festival focused on education and the celebration of the big band tradition. Middle and high school students perform throughout the day for some of the country's finest jazz educators and clinicians, and also participate in master classes, special interest clinics, and sight reading bands.
Herculaneum will perform at 12 noon, and The University of Michigan Jazz Ensemble will perform at 4:00pm. All clinics and daytime performances are free and open to the public.
The evening concert begins at 7:30pm and will feature New Trier's Jazz Ensemble 1, followed by The Mingus Big Band! This is a tremendous opportunity to hear one of the most electrifying jazz ensembles in the world!
