Hailed as "one of the best buys for your jazz dollars" by Chicago magazine, the annual Elmhurst College Jazz Festival is one of the premier events on Chicago’s musical calendar. Elmhurst College will open its doors for this 42nd annual celebration of jazz performance and education on February 27, 28, and March 1, 2009.
The three-day event will feature some of the nation's finest professional and collegiate musicians throughout five sessions. Headliners include Wayne Bergeron, Denis DiBlasio, and Steve Wiest (all on Friday evening); the Maria Schneider Orchestra (Saturday evening); and the Bill Holman Band (Sunday afternoon).
As befits an educational institution, the College's Jazz Festival will feature premier university and college jazz bands from across the country. These bands will receive critiques from Bergeron, DiBlasio, and Wiest.
Once again, the Festival's host band will be the Elmhurst College Jazz Band, under the direction of Doug Beach.
Past Elmhurst College Jazz Festivals have featured Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, Cannonball Adderley, Thad Jones, and countless other jazz luminaries.
Tickets are $10-27, and weekend packages are available. To purchase tickets, or for further information, including schedules, price information, and directions to campus, visit www.ecjazzfest.org or call (630) 617- 5534.
