A.N. Pritzker School hosts “Jazz Weekend in Wicker Park” featuring the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble – Friday February 10th and Saturday February 11th.

Pritzker parent and musician Kahil El Zabar leads ensemble in 3 benefit performances and a master class for students.
Renowned Chicagoan and legendary jazz percussionist Kahil El Zabar and members of the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble will perform 3 concerts and host a half day master class for students, all benefiting AN Pritzker School - a fine and performing arts magnet in the Heart of Wicker Park , making Friday February 10 and Saturday February 11th “Jazz Weekend in Wicker Park.”
Friday February 10th is family/student night– the set begins @ 7:00 pm - tickets $20 and $10 with Student ID. Any and all music students are welcome to attend.
Saturday February 11th will feature the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble in 2 sets, 6:00 pm VIP performance - tickets $100 and a 9:00 pm set - tickets $30 and $50.
All concerts will take place in the A.N. Pritzker School Auditorium Theatre, 2009 West Schiller Street, Chicago, 60622.

Students and parents are encouraged to attend Friday February 10th’s evening of “edu-tainment” featuring Pritzker school student musicians in this culmination of a “master class” hosted by El Zabar and Ethnic Heritage Ensemble members Corey Wilkes (trumpet) and Ernest Dawkins (sax). The players will have spent the day rehearsing and end the day with a concert for the community with students and professionals playing together.
Saturday February 11th will feature 2 sets, a VIP performance at 6pm – tickets $100 – and a 9 pm performance - tickets $30 and $50. Ticket packages include preferred seating, complimentary refreshments, raffle,photos with the artists and beverage discounts at Blue Line Lounge.
Refreshments will be available for sale, provided by Caribou Coffee.
About The Ethnic Heritage Ensemble – Percussionist Kahil El Zabar formed the ensemble in 1976 with Edward Wilkerson, Jr. Their music combines contemporary African-American musical styles such as jazz, with traditional African instrumentation and rhythms. The ensemble has extensively toured in Europe and the United States. Dr. Kahil El’Zabar is an internationally renowned percussionist , composer and is considered one of the most prolific jazz innovators of his generation.
He has played alongside a myriad of jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderly and Pharoah Sanders and played in the bands of Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, Nina Simone, and Paul Simon and recorded with rock bands like Sonia Dada and Poi Dog Pondering and heads up the jazz/house outfit JUBA Collective. He has also lent his talents to the making of movies, written and published poetry and designed clothing. His efforts as a musician, educator, and community leader led to his being named "Chicagoan of the year" in 2004 by the Chicago Tribune. You can read more about Kahil at www.kahilelzabar.net
• Saxophonist Ernest Khabeer Dawkins is one of Chicago's premier jazz saxophonists and composers. He has recorded eleven CD’s and is the founder and leader of New Horizons Ensemble. Dawkins has worked with musical greats including: Ramsey Lewis, Muhal Richard Abrams, Lester Bowie, Edward Wilkerson, Jr., Henry Threadgill, Amina Claudine Myers, Anthony Braxton, Jack McDuff, Don Moye, Jerry Butler, and The Dells. • Corey Wilkes plays trumpet with the EHE and came onto the music scene in 2002. A life long Chicagoan he made the Illinois All State Honors Jazz Combo in high school and honed his talent at Berkley College of Music.
He has played along side- Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Ledisi, Soulive, James Moody, Meshell Ndegeocello, Mike Phillips, Roscoe Mitchell, Von Freeman, Fred Anderson, Will Calhoun, and Malcom Jamal-Warner , to name a few.
