Jim Cooper Trio performs for Brookfield Jazz Society in February.

Jazz Vibraphonist Jim Cooper and his trio perform Thursday, February 3rd as part of the Brookfield Jazz Society music series.

The performance takes place at The Cottage Irish Times Pub and Restaurant, 8869 Burlington Avenue, Brookfield, IL 60513.

Music starts at 7:30 pm. There is a cover charge for this event. For more information call (708) 268 7873
In addition to Cooper playing vibes and marimba, the trio features longtime musicial compatriot Dan DeLorenzo, one of the most in demand bass players in Chicago.
Dan and Jim have played together since the early 80s, DeLorenzo being featured on both of Cooper's Delmark recordings. Drummer Andre Beasley
performs with Cooper's three vibes group Mallet Madness, and saxophonist Jim Gailloreto among others. He is known for his swing and sensitivity.

Cooper has performed with jazz legends Barrett Deems, Art Van Damme and Ira Sullivan. In 2010 Jim performed at the Chicago Jazz Fest with his group Mallet Madness and celebrated the re-release of his CD Nutville, on Delmark Records with a performance at the Green Mill with Ira Sullivan. He also re-united with pianist/composer Bob Dogan for a tribute to the late Chicago vibist Carl Leukauff at the Jazz Showcase. In 2009 he performed with Buddy DeFranco, Jon Faddis and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble for a Tribute to Benny Goodman at Millennium Park.

Jim has been influenced by a full spectrum of vibraphone players from Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson and Gary Burton to Cal Tjader and Karl Berger. Cooper's interest in working with a trio is not all due to economics. "Playing in a trio provides more space and leaves more room for improvisation," says Cooper. "It really exposes the metallic sound of the vibes and the wooden sound of the marimba."

The Jim Cooper Trio will be performing music from his recordings, new music and familiar standards.
