On Thursday, January 26th at 5:30 p.m., the Driehaus Museum in partnership with Jeff Lindberg’s Chicago Jazz Orchestra will present Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan in a celebration of the music of world-renowned French jazz guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt. Formed in 2001, Swing Gitan continues Reinhardt’s pioneering style from the 1930’s, blending the swing rhythms of early jazz with the dark passion of gypsy music.
Tickets are $35 for museum members and $45 for the general public. The museum is located at 40 E. Erie in downtown Chicago. To make reservations or purchase tickets please call (312)482-8933 or visit DriehausMuseum.org.
About the Driehaus Museum
Steps away from Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, the Driehaus Museum is a fascinating and rare example of the palatial homes erected by the wealthy of America’s Gilded Age.
The galleries are elegantly furnished with pieces from the most celebrated designers of the late 19th and early 20th century, such as Louis Comfort Tiffany and the Herter Brothers. These objets d’art are presented in harmony with the immaculately restored interiors and surviving furnishings of the Samuel M. Nickerson Mansion, which was designated as a Chicago landmark in 1977.
The Museum is located at 40 East Erie Street in Chicago and is open to the public for general admission and guided tours. Additional information on programs, facility rentals and membership can be found at DriehausMuseum.org or by calling 312-482-8933, ext. 21.
About the Chicago Jazz Orchestra
Jeff Lindberg’s Chicago Jazz Orchestra (CJO) is a 501C (3) organization founded in 1978 as the Jazz Members Big Band by Jeff Lindberg and the late Steve Jensen. Composed of Chicago’s top musicians, the CJO is Chicago’s oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation and one of the oldest jazz orchestras in the country. Conductor and Artistic Director Jeff Lindberg is one of the foremost transcribers in jazz. As a result, the Orchestra’s repertoire draws upon his vast library, which includes the works of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Benny Carter, Oliver Nelson, Ray Charles and many others.
The CJO receives support from the Stare Fund, the Illinois Arts Council, The Joseph B. Glossberg Foundation, The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, and the Oppenheimer Family Foundation. Additional in-kind support is also received from the Jazz Institute of Chicago, WDCB 90.9FM and WHPK 88.5 FM.
