Tao Tunes anyone?
Pianist/composer Dave Flippo’s newest recording project, Tao Tunes ( Oppilf Records ) is a jazz "first." The CD, performed by his ensemble Flippomusic, features 17 modern vocal jazz compositions that set adapted English lyrics of the ancient Chinese text the Tao Te Ching––something Flippo believes has never been done before.
The band will celebrate the CD release at two different locations: Jerry’s Sandwich Shop in Wicker Park on Tuesday, November 6 (from 9:30-11:30pm––1928 West Division, Chicago), and on the North Side at C.J. Arthur’s in Wilmette, Sunday, November 27 (from 6:30-9:30 pm––1163 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette). The CD goes on sale officially on CDBaby and Amazon November 27, but extensive clips of all the tunes are available at flippomusic.com.
