Grammy- and Tony Award-winning vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater embodies the captivating Billie Holiday in an 8 p.m. Mainstage performance Saturday, Nov. 7, at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage.
Bridgewater, who began her stage career in 1975 in “The Wiz” on Broadway, has performed in Los Angeles, Paris and London, where she received rave reviews for her portrayal of Holiday. The consummate performer and jazz tour-de-force has performed and recorded with Sonny Rollins, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Max Roach, Roland Kirk and others.
Nicknamed “Lady Day” by friend and collaborator Lester Young, Billie Holiday is known for her unique vocals and intimate lyrics. She is best known for her songs “God Bless the Child” and “Lady Sings the Blues,” which she co-wrote, as well as the hit “Strange Fruit.”
Tickets are $46 for adults, $44 for seniors and $36 for College of DuPage students and youth.
