The enthusiastic and energetic tenor saxist Frank Catalano will bring his sextet to the Green Mill Jazz Club, 4802 N. Broadway, on Friday, July 3, from 9PM until 1AM and on Saturday, July 4, from 8PM until midnight. Performing with Catalano will be Scott Hesse on guitar, Scott Williams on piano, Brendan Joyce on bass, Dave Marsalek on drums, and Chris Paquette on percussion.

Drummer Louis Bellson heard Catalano at age 14 playing saxophone and took him under his wing. Now Catalano can say he has performed around the world with such jazz and rock musicians as Charles Earland, Tony Bennett, Ira Sullivan, Danilo Perez, Janet Jackson, and Ministry. He has received a Grammy nomination, was signed to the Delmark label, graduated with a degree in Classical Composition from DePaul University, and has patented a multisax instrument since that time. This gifted musician is the youngest saxophonist ever voted into the Down Beat Critics Poll.

Since releasing his first recording, “Cut it Out!?!” (Delmark, 1998), Catalano has achieved a strong presence on the Chicago jazz scene and nationwide. The Chicago Tribune declares is on the verge of forging a self-styled, autobiographical musical language and calls him a soloist and bandleader whose playing now conveys an unmistakable heft and authority. DownBeat describes his playing and composing as John Coltrane energy for the 21st century. Catalano has been blowing audiences away since he was a teenager sitting in with legends like organist Charles Earland and touring with the likes of Tony Bennett. Catalano has worked with superstars from across the music scene, including Carlos Santana, Tito Puente, Wilco, and Destiny s Child, on numerous recordings and tours.
