Recently, saxophonist Mike Frost and I developed a clinic called “From Frank Sinatra to Norah Jones––Understanding the Dynamics of Jazz.” We now host lunchtime clinics for casual music fans in nearby office buildings who are interested in music, but who are not necessarily into jazz. Each clinic includes a jazz trio performance, followed by a brief discussion of jazz history, tune form (what it is and how to follow it as a listener), the interaction between musicians, and styles (the differences between swing, bebop, bossa nova, samba and other styles of jazz music).
