JAZZ VOCALIST JANICE BORLA TO PERFORM FOR MUSICALIVE! CONCERT SERIES
LaGrange Park, IL – The Janice Borla Group will perform "Jazz From Every Angle,” a special concert event presented by the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph on Sunday, November 23. The performance, part of the Sisters’ MusicAlive! concert series, will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Sisters’ Chapel, 1515 W. Ogden Ave., LaGrange Park.

Borla’s recordings and performances have earned her consistently high praise for her beautiful sound, superb technique and imaginative vocal improvisations. Jazz Times magazine describes her as “a one-woman jazz tornado…Genius. Pure genus.” Her current CD release From Every Angle was named among DownBeat Magazine’s “Best CDs of 2007” and her previous recording Agents of Change designated the “#1 Jazz CD of 2003” by WBEZ-FM Chicago Public Radio.
This is a special performance for Borla, who grew up in the western suburbs and throughout her youth attended schools run by the Sisters of St. Joseph. A graduate of Nazareth Academy, she recalls her years with the Sisters fondly and regards this concert as an opportunity to “give something back to an extraordinary community of talented and intelligent women” who instilled in her “a lifelong commitment to excellence and artistic achievement.”

Joining Borla for this performance are the members of her group: trumpeter Art Davis, featured soloist with the Ray Charles Orchestra; guitarist John McLean, well-known in the Chicago area for his innovative playing style; bassist Rob Amster, currently also with Kurt Elling; and drummer Jack Mouse, formerly with Stan Kenton, Clark Terry and a member of the Dan Haerle Trio.

Tickets for the concert at $21, $23 at the door; $15 for seniors/students; $18 for group tickets of six or more. A reception with light refreshments follows the performance. For more information or to order tickets, call 708-482-5054.
