CHICAGO JAZZ MUSICIAINS JOIN FORCES TO HELP MUSIC STUDENTS
The Chicago Jazz Cruise for a Cause
On October 19, 2009, over 20 Chicago jazz musicians will take part in the Chicago Jazz Cruise for a Cause—presented by Chicago Jazz Magazine and Frostsounds. This incredible Chicago jazz event on the water will be held on the top-rated cruise boat, the Odyssey, leaving from Navy Pier and will feature some of Chicago’s top jazz musicians performing on two different climate-controlled decks of the Odyssey, a lavish dinner and dessert buffet, and a three-hour cruise on Lake Michigan providing incredible views of the city.
All proceeds from the Chicago Jazz Cruise for a Cause will be donated to the VanderCook College of Music’s Community Music Program, which provides private instrument lessons to local children who are unable to afford lessons otherwise. Over 150 students, over 85 percent of whom are below high school age, have been able to continue mastering their instruments through the Community Music Program since its inception in 2003.
“We hope to do this several times a year” says Mike Jeffers, publisher of Chicago Jazz Magazine. “This is a great way to not only promote the musicians that help to create jazz in Chicago but also to contribute to a worthy charity.” This is just the first cruise––they hope to schedule others throughout the year and to help other charities throughout Chicagoland.
A few of the musicians scheduled to perform include Mike Frost, Joel Spencer, Ava Logan, Kelly Sill, Libby York, Tom Muellner, Nick Schneider, Dan Ferris, Neal Alger and many others.
