August 26: Latin Inferno: James Sanders' Conjunto with Special Guests Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, and Papo Santiago
Steeped in the Afro-Cuban musical tradition, violinist James Sanders can be seen and heard across Chicago from symphonies to Latin clubs and everywhere in between. This night, his Latin Jazz band, Conjunto, featuring Steve Eisen, Jose Porcayo, Luis Rosario, Roel Trevino, Donald Neale, Jean-Christophe Leroy and Brett Benteler welcomes members of Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, and special guest vocalist Papo Santiago. The set is dedicated to Sanders' musical mentor Fred Anderson.
Last Thursday Alphonso Ponticelli's birthday party for guitar pioneer Django Reinhardt memerized 11.500 people in Millennium Park. If you missed it here's

August 26-29: Historic Recording at the Jazz Showcase
Chicago vibraphonist Stu Katz and multi- instrumentalist Ira Sullivan sat down to talk to us about their upcoming live recording at the Jazz Showcase, their long history on Chicago's jazz scene. To listen to the podcast click here

August 28 and 29: Jazz Links Students Programming and Performing at the Bucktown Arts Festival
The Bucktown Arts Fest’s Leavitt Stage - New Jazz Roots will showcase young musicians from around the Chicago area on Saturday and Sunday, August 28 and 29, 2010, from noon to 7 PM each day. Highlights include, The Rajiv Halim Quintet; Ben Solomon and his band; the Lane Beckstrom Trio; Greg Uhlmann and his band; and Kids These Days. The concerts will take place in Senior Citizens Memorial Park 2238 N. Oakley Avenue and 2300 West Lyndale Street.
New Jazz Roots programming director, Lane Beckstrom is a member of the Jazz Links Student Council, and many of the musicians have participated in Jazz Institute programs including Jazz Ambassadors, Jazz Links and the neighborhood-based JazzCity concert series. The 10 groups featured throughout the 2-day fest hale from high school and college programs around the Chicago area. The line-up will present a range of styles and you will have the chance to hear the next big jazz stars early in their careers!

This TUESDAY AUGUST 24th, the Jazz Ambassadors perform at the South Shore Cultural Center 7059 S. South Shore Dr., Chicago, IL before the annual summer screening of The Wiz at about 7PM
In collaboration with the the Chicago Park District Jazz Ambassadors Summer Internship program matches talented young jazz players with three veteran Chicago jazz musician mentors for six weeks of practice and performance in neighborhood parks.

Chicago has always been a city of big bass players. This concert will pay tribute to the legacies of Wilbur Ware, Milt Hinton, Fred Hopkins and Malachi Favors, featuring bassists Larry Gray and Harrison Bankhead, with Kirk Brown on piano, Avreeayl Ra on drums Art Hoyle on trumpet and Edward Wilkerson on reeds.
