Jazz Unites, Inc. presents the 28th annual JazzFest Heritage Music Weekend, July 31 - August 2, 2009 at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive. This relaxed, family friendly, carefree outdoor concert combines picnics, family reunions a bit of shopping, socializing and eating – all accompanied by the very best in jazz, Latin jazz and Blues music.
As a prelude to the JazzFest, Jazz Unites, Inc is linking with JWR tours to sponsor the first Chicago Jazz Club Crawl (CJCC). For more information go to www.chicagojazzclubcrawl.com
The “We Love You Madly” awards gala kicks off the weekend events on Friday, July 31st. This year’s honorees include: Saxophonist, James Moody; Historian and musician Kelan Phil Cohran; State Representative Barbara Flynn Currie; American Airlines; Target; and the Chicago Park District. After dinner, partygoers will be treated to the smooth sounds of the Bryan Carter Quartet. Tickets are $30, but only $25 for Jazz Unites, Inc. members.
On Saturday, August 1st the program begins with select High School Bands, at approximately 11:00 a.m. and concludes with the James Moody Quartet. The Sunday concert begins at approximately 11:00 a.m. and features The Fernando Jones Blues Ensemble, and The Noman Connors Starship Orchestra with special guest Tom Browne closes the festival. Other performers scheduled to appear include: (Saturday) Fernando Jones, Crosswinds, Theresa Griffin, and Orbit Davis (Sunday) Victor Parra, Michael Ross, and The Deep Blue Organ Trio. This 2-day festival is free to the public.
