PROMISE ME THE MOON has made it on to the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards Entry List (1st round voting) for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, reflective of songs from the Great American Songbook, e.g. Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin.
Lisa McQueen, Tanner’s longtime pianist, is recognized for her swingin’ piano solo on the title track, “Promise Me the Moon,” as is Tanner for her trumpet solo on “Over the Rainbow.” (Best Improvised Jazz Solo).
PROMISE ME THE MOON, Tanner's fifth release (December, 2008/Tanner Time Records), will remind listeners of the romantic music of the 1930’s and 40’s. The light, swing rhythm and charming lyrics of Tanner’s title track “Promise me the Moon” set the tone for this warm-hearted collection of love songs. The style of the c.d. is very reminiscent of those songs that told a story and had a memorable melody.
“Looks like I'm in good company with some amazing artists who continue to win Grammys year after year, like Tony Bennett,” said Tanner. “I don't have a prayer making it on to the actual final ballot of 5 artists, but it’s nice to have the c.d. out there... especially since 12 of the 14 tracks are my original compositions.”
PROMISE ME THE MOON highlights Tanner’s vocals and trumpet, but especially her talent as a composer. The c.d. features the fantastic talents of Tanner’s amazing quartet: Lisa McQueen on piano, who co-wrote the track “Can’t Believe That It’s You;” Cory Biggerstaff on upright bass and Darlene DuFay on drums; as well as special guest Neal Alger who added his signature guitar styling to the c.d.
Says Tanner, “I tried to infuse PROMISE ME THE MOON with all the emotion I felt as I composed each piece, and capture in the recording all the warmth, feeling and spontaneity of the live performances with the Jeannie Tanner Quartet. The quartet really makes my music come to life!”
PROMISE ME THE MOON is the third c.d. of Tanner’s to be recognized on the Grammy Awards Entry List in various categories. (TANNER TIME, 2007; and THOSE THAT LIE IN BETWEEN, 2005).
