JEANNIE TANNER QUARTET to Perform

at Taste of Chicago on Best Buy Stage

Chicago vocalist, trumpeter and composer Jeannie Tanner will be performing with the Jeannie Tanner Quartet on Sunday, June 28th at Taste of Chicago, 12:30-1:30 on the Best Buy Stage (located at Jackson & Lakeshore Drive).

"...Her singing is as lyrical as her trumpet playing. The silvery quality of her vocal tone, the pliancy of her rhythms and the originality of her compositions attest to her depth as a jazz musician." Howard Reich, CHICAGO TRIBUNE (February, 2008)

Jeannie Tanner is an award winning composer, vocalist and trumpeter. This multi-talented instrumentalist is among the few successful female trumpet players and jazz musicians in the world. Her music has been used for many TV/film projects, including Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert (PBS), and the indie feature film Reconstellation, which was entered in the Sundance Film Festival. She was recently honored by the West Coast Songwriters International Song Contest (2008) for her original song, "Reflections in Mirrors" and has won many ASCAP Composition Awards for her original music.

At the Taste, the Jeannie Tanner Quartet will be performing original music from Tanner's new c.d. PROMISE ME THE MOON, and her 2007 release, TANNER TIME. Both c.d.s are available in all Best Buy Stores.

PROMISE ME THE MOON is the follow-up to Tanner's highly acclaimed 2007 release, TANNER TIME, which was on the Grammy ballot voting list in nine categories, including Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best Original Composition.

PROMISE ME THE MOON is Tanner's fifth release, and her first "concept" c.d. Composed in the romantic genre of the 1930s-40s pop music, ten of PROMISE ME THE MOON's 12 tracks are Tanner's originals. Each song, from the swinging, light-hearted title track, "Promise Me the Moon," to the elegant ballads including "Our Love's Fulfilled," showcase Tanner's deft ability to flawlessly combine jazz, pop, R&B and Latin rhythms to create fresh, lively tunes that she calls j-pop (jazz-pop, a mix of jazz, pop, R&B & Latin rhythms).

The variety of tunes on this new c.d. Promise Me The Moon showcase Tanner’s breadth and talent as a songwriter and musician. Promise Me The Moon is lush, complex and organic with intricate time signatures and chord progressions that give her talented quartet room to stretch and move and explore the music. But Tanner's distinguishing feat as a composer lies in her ability to fuse the spontaneity of old school jazz with memorable lyrics and musical hooks that give her music broad appeal. PROMISE ME THE MOON features genuinely inspired work by her quartet: Lisa McQueen , piano; Cory Biggerstaff , bass; and Darlene DuFay on drums; with special guest Neal Alger on guitar.

The Jeannie Tanner Quartet recently performed on ABC in Chicago; and brought down the house at the 2008 Taste of Chicago, headlining on the Best Buy Stage. The quartet played to a sold out crowd at the release party for PROMISE ME THE MOON this past December (2008) at Andy’s Jazz Club in Chicago . And, Tanner has performed the National Anthem for the Chicago Cubs, White Sox and Bulls. She has opened for Kurt Elling (at the Park West) and Tony Orlando (Pheasant Run Resort); and shared the stage with Joan Cusack, Studs Terkel and a host of other beloved Chicagoans.

Ms. Tanner has performed and recorded with drummer Matt Walker (Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan & Garbage); bassist Brett Simons (Shakira & Jennifer Love Hewitt); pianist Ryan Cohan (arranger for the Chicago Symphony Jazz Ensemble and Ramsey Lewis); multi-instrumentalist & composer Scott Bennett (Brian Wilson's Band) bassist Jim Cammack (Ahmad Jamal & Nancy Wilson); and bassist Clark Sommers (Mighty Blue Kings and Dan Cray Trio).

Ms. Tanner will be going back into the studio later this year, for her much anticipated follow-up to PROMISE ME THE MOON. You can check out Ms. Tanner's trio every week, on Thursdays, at Marie's in Chicago, and follow her performances at venues such as Pete Miller's in Evanston/Wheeling, Volare, Andy's Jazz Club, Katerina's, and many other fine clubs/restaurants around Chicago.
