Jim Trompeter's All-Star Quintet featuring saxophonist Ralph Bowen will celebrate the release of "Live at the Green Mill", recorded last October, at the Green Mill, 4802 N. Broadway. The quintet will perform a two-night engagement on Friday, October 24, from 9PM to 1AM, and Saturday, October 25, from 8PM to midnight. Trumpeter Tito Carrillo, bassist Dennis Carroll, and drummer Dana Hall complete the band. This self-released live recording features a hard-hitting straight ahead contemporary modal jazz quintet performing standards and originals.
Superb pianist and notable composer Jim Trompeter's award-winning career is filled with extensive professional successes at the highest levels as a commercial composer, film composer, producer, performer, and instructor. His richly varied compositional styles can be heard on Oprah Winfrey’s TV show, HBO's The Sopranos, and ABC News. Jim’s performance chops are impressive, and he has the awards to show for it (Down Beat Magazine award for "Best Instrumental Jazz Performer"; Montreux Jazz Festival's "Stan Kenton Memorial Scholarship" award for Best Performer, finalist in the "Hennessey" National Jazz Festival, and five Down Beat awards in the Large Ensemble category).
Saxophonist Ralph Bowen has made his mark on the New York jazz scene for over two decades, while bringing his "casual perfectionism" to clubs, concert halls, and festivals worldwide. Bowen's discography of over 50 titles includes collaborations with Orrin Evans, Michel Camillo, and Horace Silver. As a Professor of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University, composer/arranger for films, and performer on television and radio, Bowen’s impact and audiences continue to expand.
