Wheaton College's Center for Applied Christian Ethics (CACE) presents an evening of jazz with the John Patitucci Duo and the Deanna Witkowski Trio at 7 p.m. Friday, February 27.
John Patitucci, world renowned jazz double bass and electric bass player, specializes in post-bop, jazz fusion, and Brazilian jazz. He is the recipient of two Grammy Awards, one for playing and one for composing. He is joined by pianist Jon Cowherd, whose performances and compositions are on the cutting edge of today's progressive music movement.
Deanna Witkowski graduated from Wheaton College in 1993 with a classical piano degree. She won the 2002 Great American Jazz Piano Competition. Also a composer and vocalist, she brings a vitality of spirit to her fusions of jazz, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, and sacred music.
The concert takes place in Barrows Auditorum, located inside the Billy Graham Center at 500 College Avenue in Wheaton. Tickets cost $15 for general seating and are available at the Wheaton College bookstore, located at 418 North Chase Street, in Wheaton. Online orders may be placed at brownpapertickets.com.
In addition to the concert, there is a panel discussion with the musicians at 3:15 p.m. Friday, February 27 in the Kresge Room located in the east wing of Edman Memorial Chapel and a Master's Class taught by John Patitucci at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 28 in Chatlos Studios in the lower level of the Billy Graham Center.
