She took the world by storm in 1999 as a teen sensation with her hit single, Baby One More Time. Now, and ten years later, Britney Spears graces Chicago, this time as local gypsy-jazz group, lePercolateur, performs some of her more recent material with an electrifying twist. Featuring soulful singing intertwined with dexterous violin solos over exciting multi-guitar rhythms and a solid bass foundation, each member of the band brings their unique stylistic imprint to the mix.
This month, lePercolateur hits the Tonic Room in Lincoln Park in a triple bill of premium musical acts from Chicago. Selections from Britney Spears will be the highlight of the evening, including compositions from her late 2008 release of Circus, which earned gold certification after only a week in the stores. lePercolateur may be remembered for its gypsy-jazz interpretation of modern pop music, but the group keeps audiences on their toes with a clever mixture of vocal and instrumental songs, including original compositions and favorite jazz standards of the early 20th century.
