Hipsters Gypsies & Jazz Hippies put on “Musical Halloween Costumes”
He is one of the most one of the most talented and commercially successful pop musicians of the last 20 years, producing ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career. Winning seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible. He is the Artist currently and formerly known as Prince, and his iconic music will be performed in Chicago - this time by the Windy City’s most unique gypsy jazz band interpreting his material with an electrifying twist.
Local gypsy-jazz group, lePercolateur, kicks off the evening performing their own style of ‘hipster gypsy-jazz’, interspersing their set with classic Prince songs. Featuring soulful singing intertwined with dexterous violin solos over exciting multi-guitar rhythms and a solid bass foundation, each member of this band brings their unique stylistic imprint to the mix. lePercolateur may be remembered for its gypsy-jazz interpretation of modern pop and rock music, but the group keeps audiences on their toes with a clever mixture of vocal and instrumental songs, including all the favorite jazz standards of the early 20th century.
Following lePercolateur, the Paul Abella Trio will take the stage, donning their "80s Mixtape" musical costume. Break out the parachute pants, neon sunglasses, LA Gears & shoulder pads as you rejoice in the Glory Days of the decade of escapism & excess. Hits from the 80’s {Edie Brickell, Yes, Genesis, Tears for Fears, Michael Jackson, Living Colour, Bon Jovi, Matthew Wilder, and R.E.M. } will be added to the PA3's already audacious mix of jazz, samba, salsa, blues and rock. Taking inspiration from a long line of jazz musicians, The Paul Abella Trio is equal parts modern jazz band, eclectic jam band and populist bar band.
This Halloween weekend Friday the 29th, lePercolateur and The Paul Abella Trio hit the Store in Lincoln Park. Watch as these two Chicago musical powerhouses share the stage for a night of jammin' grooves, groovin' jams and some music that is rarely, if ever, attempted in the jazz arena.
