The McAninch Arts Center (MAC) at College of DuPage recently received a $40,700 award through the Illinois Arts Council to support for its 2008-2009 season.
The MAC is one of 42 groups named Illinois Arts Council Partners in Excellence and College of DuPage is the only community college among the five colleges and universities honored by the IAC. Partner in Excellence designees reflect the highest level of arts programming, superior management and financial stability, and access to underserved and multi-cultural audiences.
The MAC’s 2008-2009 season includes more than 45 events, 11 art exhibitions at the Gahlberg Gallery and programs produced by the Arts Center Jazz Ensemble, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, New Philharmonic Orchestra and DuPage Opera Theatre. In all, the current season features 374 artists and a variety of national and international performers, contributing to the MAC’s mission to foster enlightened education and performance opportunities to encourage artistic expression, promote a lasting relationship between people and art, and enrich the cultural vitality of the community.
Last season’s programming reached more than 76,000 patrons and the MAC’s SchoolStage program served more than 9,500 local students. The MAC’s outreach program also includes workshops, master classes, pre- and post-performance discussions, artists’ receptions, and special lectures.
In 2009, MAC staff plan to further that outreach and currently are scheduling additional lectures and discussions as well as coordinating a community outreach program in conjunction with Sones de Mexico, a Mexican music and cultural group. Once formalized, this program will include workshops at several elementary schools in West Chicago.
