North Central College will present the third in its Jazz Faculty Concert Series on Wednesday, January 13, with a performance by vocalist Janice Borla. Joining her will be guitarist John McLean, pianist Frank Caruso, bassist Larry Kohut and drummer Jack Mouse. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave, Naperville.

Borla, a native Chicagoan, has been described as "a one-woman jazz tornado" (Jazz Times) and "a stunning singer with a lustrous voice and the technique, imagination and daring of the best improvising instrumentalists" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Her current CD release From Every Angle was named one the "Best CDs of the Year" by DownBeat Magazine. She is founder of the Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp and "Hot Jazz - 6 Cool Nites" concert series, an annual event at North Central College now in its 22nd season.

Jack Mouse, coordinator of the College’s Jazz Studies Program, says of the Jazz Faculty Concert series, “We have conceived this series of informal concerts as an opportunity for audiences, particularly young people, to be able to hear world-class professional jazz artists at an affordable cost without having to travel into the city or cope with the underage restrictions typical of many jazz venues.”

Admission to the performances is $15.00 general admission and $12.00 for students and senior citizens. To purchase tickets, contact the NCC Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469).

The series will continue through April, 2010:

Feb 3 Trumpeter Doug Scharf
Feb 24 Trombonist T.S. Galloway
Apr 14 Saxophonist Mitch Paliga
