It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of veteran music public relations executive Peter J. Levinson, considered by many in the music business to be the preeminent authority on jazz and affiliated music.
In recent years he had also become one of the industry’s most prominent biographers of major figures in the musical field.
Peter succumbed early October 21 of head injuries due to a fall in his Malibu home. He was 74 years old. For nearly two years he suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) which had eventually robbed him of his ability to speak.
Despite that, with the help of a talking computer, he worked tirelessly for the industry until the day he died.
He will be missed by everyone in the Jazz community.
