Rob Parton has accepted a new position at Capital University in Columbus Ohio as Associate Professor of Trumpet. Parton leaves the Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University after being a member of the faculty since 1993. Over the years at Roosevelt, Parton had the pleasure of recording three CD's, three performances at the International Association of Jazz Educator's and numerous awards for outstanding ensembles of all sizes at acclaimed Jazz Festivals. Students have gone on to perform with many of the current jazz greats including the Maria Schneider Orchestra. Others have chosen to continue studies as graduate assistants at some of the finest jazz schools in the world including University of Miami, Juilliard, and the University of Cincinnati.
In Columbus, Parton will be teaching all areas of trumpet performance to Music Education, Jazz Studies and BA students. In addition to teaching, Parton will also be joining the Columbus Jazz Orchestra on occasion with friend and colleague Byron Stripling, who is the Music Director and trumpet soloist. Parton will also continue work on occasion in the theatre in Columbus.
The most appealing part of these new opportunities is the chance to spend more quality time with his family and to see his parents who live close to Columbus.
For the next year or so Parton will commute between Chicago and Columbus and decide at a later date whether to sell the house in Oak Park or to continue commuting. These decisions will ultimately be economically driven.
