Motéma is proud to announce that pianist and composer Ryan Cohan, who has been heralded as "a gifted pianist" and "a master at three-horn writing" by DownBeat magazine, has been awarded the 2009 Guggenheim Fellowship in the area of music composition. Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of stellar achievement and exceptional promise for continued accomplishment.
In addition to his Guggenheim Fellowship, Ryan Cohan has been honored with three Chamber Music America awards, two Illinois Arts Council Fellowships and his quartet was twice selected(2009, 2008) by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. Dept. Of State to tour internationally as part of the Rhythm Road program.
Be sure to catch Ryan on June 5th at Symphony Center in Chicago with Jon Faddis and The Chicago Jazz Ensemble playing the music of Duke Ellington. Ryan's new CD, Another Look, featuring his touring quartet plus Joe Locke and Steve Kroon, will be released on Motéma Music in early 2010.
