The Jazz Showcase will definitely reopen in June, according to owner Joe Segal. The Showcase, now in its sixtieth year, has a targeted launch date of June 5 with Freddy Cole, but snags with city officials may delay the opening up to a few weeks. The new location is at 806 S. Plymouth Court in the Dearborn Station (between Dearborn and State). Segal's game plan is to feature nationally and internationally known artists Thursday through Sunday, including a Sunday matinee, and college students and young musicians Monday through Wednesday. There may also be after-work sets starting at five or six. One casualty of the locale change will be the BIRD phone number, long associated with the club—AT&T tells Segal a new phone number will be issued.
