Announcing a very special opportunity to hear three of the hottest European jazz artists in concert with guitarist, John Moulder, at Gorton Center to benefit Cabin Fever Jazz 2010!
The Lighthouse Trio features horn player Tim Garland, pianist Gwilym Simcock, and drummer Asaf Sirkis.
Leader Tim Garland, first made international waves playing saxophone, bass clarinet and flute with Chick Corea and has orchestrated five of Chick’s best loved pieces…which just won the 2009 Grammy for best instrumental jazz CD.
(“magnificent and creative arrangements”—Pat Metheny)
Garland “…is also a richly atmospheric composer and arranger. He is at home in both jazz and classical music, and in either big orchestral settings or smaller, more intimate surroundings.”—Chris May, All About Jazz.
The young pianist & composer, Gwilym Simcock, is one of the fastest rising jazz pianists in the world!
Moving effortlessly between jazz and classical music, Simcock is breaking new ground between genres. Winner of multiple awards including “Jazz Musician of the Year” at the 2007 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, this is a pianist not to be missed!
“I feel confident that Simcock already deserves to occupy the inner circle of the great contemporary pianists along with Mehldau, Jarrett, and Rubalcaba”—David Kane, Cadence USA.
Asaf Sirkis plays not a conventional drum set but a customized percussion set-up. “Since arriving in London from
Israel at the end of the 90s, Asaf Sirkis has earned a reputation as one of the world’s premier drummers.”—Ian Patterson, All About Jazz, Sept 2008.
This outstanding trio will be joined by John Moulder, Chicago’s premier guitarist. Coming direct from the Kennedy Center while on a cross country tour of the US, the trio will be in the recording studio with John working on his newest CD.
The trio’s latest CD, Libra, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is “one of the finest achievements in British jazz, and thus European jazz, for some considerable time.”—Jazzwise, February 2009.
Jazz and classical music are prominent stylistic elements in the group’s performances together with rhythmic patterns of Middle Eastern & Latin American origin.
All four artists are well known individually for their talents and all are composers of new jazz compositions.
This should prove to be a very rare and special concert of music hot off the recording floor by some of the finest jazz artists in Europe today.
