The Morse Theatre, the crown jewel of Rogers Park, is a nickelodeon theatre from 1912 that has been restored, remodeled and is now perhaps the best listening room in the city. Managers of the new Morse Theatre are committed to having at least forty percent of the theater's performances devoted to jazz, featuring both local and national artists. Upcoming national performances include Eliane Elias on January 16 and the Chuchito Valdés Quartet on the 17th.

This 299-seat theater, complete with a full restaurant, three different bars, first class amenities and much more is located one-half block from the Red Line and two blocks West of Sheridan Road in downtown Rogers Park. The Morse Theatre boasts a Steinway 8'11" Model "D" concert grand piano, which is raised out of the floor of the stage with hydraulic lifts, a B-3 organ with a Leslie speaker, and a 96-track recording board with Pro Tools; plus a fully functioning radio broadcast studio. Currently, WFMT broadcasts each Sunday morning at 11am from the theatre, featuring different classical musicians performing music live from the Morse.

Starting Jan 2009, Chicago Jazz Magazine will hold a "Jazz from Chicago" concert series each Wednesday night. This will be an opportunity to showcase local Chicago talent in a state-of-the-art listening room, creating more opportunities for local musicians.
