TYPHANIE MONIQUE, NEAL ALGER, and FRIENDS
HOLIDAY RECORD RELEASE PARTY
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2008

“The Chicago-based duo takes novel approaches to unexpected songs. Alger provides colorful, energetic support for Monique's soulful vocals.” – Jon Andrews, Downbeat

“The duo combines tradition with heartfelt passion and innovation…they’re spontaneous and creative in their enthusiasm....” – Jim Santella, Cadence

In celebration of the release of “Yuletide Groove” (Tyme Records), vocalist Typhanie Monique and guitarist Neal Alger will perform a holiday record release party at the Green Mill Jazz Club, 4802 N. Broadway, on Friday, December 19, from 9PM until 1AM. Special guests will include Tony Monaco on Hammond B-3 organ, Dan Nicholson on sax, Larry Kohut on bass, George Fludas on drums, JAQ on beatbox, and many others.
The Chicago-based jazz duo of Typhanie Monique on vocals and Neal Alger on guitar have released their third
project “Yuletide Groove”, a shimmering collection of holiday songs complete with special guest musicians. Though the tune choices might be familiar to many, some of the arrangements might not be. Underneath all of the guests’ contributions lies the R&B-tinged yet still firmly jazz-based work of Alger and Monique; in “Yuletide Groove” their performances are consistently creative and brimming with the contagious holiday spirit.

Typhanie Monique has established herself as a respected vocalist and songwriter in various genres (jazz, house, hip-hop) and groups such as Peking Turtle, SUMO, and Mr. Egg Germ.

Neal Alger has freelanced as a guitarist in the Chicagoland area for 11 years. His jazz
credentials include performances with Lin Halliday, Ed Thigpen, Howard Levy, and Fareed Haque. Most notably, Neal has recorded and toured the U.S., Europe, and Canada with Blue Note recording artist Patricia Barber. Neal has released a CD under his own name featuring his original compositions titled, “Here and Now, Then and Before”.
