University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) will host its third annual High School Jazz Festival, featuring performances by noted UIC jazz faculty members and renowned harmonica virtuoso Howard Levy. The concert takes place on February 27 (8:30 am to 5 pm) at the Illinois Room Student Center East, 750 S. Halsted St. in Chicago. Up to 14 Chicago-area high-school jazz ensembles are expected to will perform and be critiqued by UIC faculty members Ernie Adams (percussion), Patricia Barber (vocals), Ari Brown (saxophone), Orbert Davis (trumpet), Stewart Miller (bass), Peter Stoltzman (piano) and Zvonimir Tot (guitar). Later in the afternoon the UIC Jazz Faculty Combo will perform.
The festival will conclude with an evening concert featuring renowned harmonica virtuoso Howard Levy, the UIC Jazz Faculty Combo, and the UIC Jazz Ensemble, directed by drummer Joel Spencer, adjunct lecturer of music.
