Ten to 14 Chicago-area high-school jazz ensembles are expected to perform throughout the day. Noted Chicago jazz artists who teach at UIC, including Ernie Adams (percussion), Patricia Barber (vocals), Ari Brown (saxophone), Orbert Davis (trumpet), Stewart Miller (bass),
Peter Stoltzman (piano), and Zvonimir Tot (guitar) will judge and critique each performance and conduct workshops for the students.
The UIC Jazz Faculty Combo, Student Combo and Jazz Ensemble will perform at mid-day.
The festival will culminate with an evening concert featuring renowned harmonica virtuoso Howard Levy, the UIC Jazz Faculty Combo, and the UIC Jazz Ensemble, directed by drummer Joel Spencer, adjunct lecturer of music.
"This festival is an outstanding opportunity for students to work with leading Chicago jazz artists while getting to know the UIC campus," said Tot, professor of jazz studies and organizer of the festival.
