*Friends and Fans to Honor Fred Anderson's Endurance in Concert Series*
*'Velvet Birdhouse' Coalition Vows to Keep the Music Alive*
CHICAGO -- The Velvet Birdhouse Coalition will present its first in a seriesof concerts dedicated to continuing the tradition, spirit and vision of Fred Anderson, the cherished Chicago mentor, club owner and creative musician who passed away last year. Its unusual name comes from the two altruistic venues Mr. Anderson operated during his lifetime for the purpose of supporting and presenting creative improvised music.
Mr. Anderson's efforts inspired generations of musicians and fans and spread his goodwill and creativity around the world. Supporters of this coalition feel a sense of duty to continue his good work by creating and enhancing
venues for the music to continue.
The special concerts, hosted by International Entertainment Restaurants Corp. are set for the South Loop Hotel, in the L26 Restaurant, 2600 S. State St., on Chicago's Near South Side Street parking is available as well as in the hotel parking lot adjacent to 26th Street. Public transportation also serves this location.
The first concert will begin with doors opening at 9 p.m. and the first set at 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21. It will feature Corey Wilkes and the Velvet Lounge All-Stars with Corey Wilkes trumpet; Kevin Nabors, tenor saxophone;
Justin Dillard, piano; Christian Dilingham, bass and Isaiah Spencer, drums.
Admission is $15. Proceeds will be shared with the performing musicians and allocated support a musical celebration of Mr. Anderson's birthday in March.

The "Velvet Birdhouse" Coalition includes support from the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, Asian Improv Arts Midwest, the Jazz Institute of Chicago, Umbrella Music and anonymous donors. This effort
represents the collaboration and good will of Mr. Anderson's many personal friends and associates who worked alongside him for many years and who continue to owe him a debt of gratitude.
