Hyde Park Jazz Festival - Preview of 2016 Fest

The Hyde Park Jazz Festival is celebrating it's 10th Anniversary this September 24th and 25th. The fest will once again present national and international artists as well as critically acclaimed local performers. This year's Festival will feature a very special performance by the Randy Weston at the Rockefeller Chapel on Saturday, September 25th to celebrate his 90th birthday and close Saturday's activity. The festival is also partnering with the Reva & David Logan Center for the Arts to commission MacArthur Fellow, composer and alto saxophonist, Miguel Zenon, to compose a series of pieces to be performed with Chicago's own Spektral Quartet.

Other additions to the festival this year will be South Side native and Alpert and Doris Duke Performing Artist Award winning artist, Matana Roberts, rising star trumpeter Amir El Saffar will bring his critically acclaimed Two Rivers Ensemble to Chicago and Tom Harrell will bring his TRIP ensemble to the fest for the first time. The Hyde Park Jazz Festival will also feature more than 30 local artists including the Joshua Abrams Quartet, Dee Alexander Quartet, Greg Ward & 10 Tongues, Wayfaring: Katie Ernst and James Falzone, Victor Goines Quartet; Bobby Lewis 80th Birthday Quintet, Jumaane Taylor, M.A.D.D. Rhythms & Rajiv Halim Quartet and many others. A new addition to the festival will be a collaboration with the Hyde Park Art Center which will invite several visual artists to create and install work on the Midway Plaisance. This project builds on the Festival's initial intent to explore unique and architecturally significant spaces and animate them with jazz and community. Each of the artists will create work that builds on or responds to ideas and concepts present in jazz and the South Side.
