On June 19th, the South Side Jazz Coalition (SSJC) will pay tribute to a few of those not often mentioned incredible artists who left a legacy of music that will never be forgotten. Hosted by 'The Governor of Talk Radio' and an ardent jazz enthusiast, WVON-AM 1690's Cliff Kelley and everyone there will enjoy the music of legendary performers, Von Freeman, King Pleasure, Joe Williams, Thelonious Monk, Dakota Staton, Irene Reid, Carmen McRae and Pearl Bailey just to name a few.

Margaret Murphy-Webb

A fantastic group of Chicago musicians and vocalists have been gathered to pay homage to these jazz greats. Chicago vocalists Bobbi Wilsyn, Margaret Murphy-Webb, Lucious Bell, Laura Walls and teen jazz prodigy Mae Ya, will be sure to enchant, excite and enthrall audiences. These artists will be joined by one of the city's best contemporary jazz virtuosos - Audley Reid on saxophone, accompanied by a trio of some of Chicago’s finest jazz musicians led by SSJC’s Music Director, Bassist Chuck Webb.

“By honoring Fathers during Black Music Month, the South Side Jazz Coalition (SSJC) further establishes its commitment to the arts, culture and community. We’re excited to feature some of the best of Chicago vocalists and musicians that come out of this city’s rich jazz heritage on Sunday, June 19th on the DuSable Museum stage,” SSJC Executive Board Member Sasha Daltonn said.
