40th Annual North Shore Jazz Fest - January 21st Glenbrook South High School
Glenbrook South High School is proud to announce its 40th annual North Shore Jazz Fest on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Glenbrook South High School, 4000 Lake Ave in Glenview, Illinois.
What is Jazz Fest you might ask?... Jazz Fest is a day-long musical celebration, as well as a regional competition hosted by the Glenbrook South Instrumental League. Over 40 schools from as far away as Champaign will be in residence that day with approximately 80 competing ensembles and 1500+ talented young artists. Student ensembles will be performing throughout the day on 4 different stages. Students also receive the benefit of working with professional clinical musicians after each performance to learn how to enhance their skills.
Performances begin at 7:50AM and culminate with a performance by our prior year’s Grand Champion at 6:15PM. An awards ceremony will follow at approximately 7:15PM. Glenbrook South High School’s own Gregory Wojcik will be celebrated during our awards ceremony for his years of service and teaching as he prepares for retirement at the conclusion of this academic year.
We are thrilled to invite the community to come and listen to our featured guest artist Bryan Carter and the Young Swangers, performing at about 6:30PM in the auditorium. Bryan Carter was the house drummer for the NBC variety show, Maya and Marty and is a teaching artist for Jazz at Lincoln Center. Bryan will be joined for this performance GBS alumnus, Dan Chmielinski.
Additionally, Eric Schneider and the Midwest Young Artists Jazz Combo will be our special guests performing at 12:00 Noon.
Jazz Fest is honored to be able to offer multiple prizes to the top performing musicians, including scholarships to various music programs and music lessons from top area institutions.
Tickets are only $10.00 per adult, $5 for children and seniors, and we offer family packages for $25 (2 adults & 2 children) and you can come and listen to jazz music all day long.
You want food? We have that too! Our Jazz Café will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
