Nick Mazzarella's Anagram Series is a weekly concert series that has been showcasing some of the best talent in the city since 2015. August 1st bassist and educator Katie Ernst was featured as the guest curator for the evening which featured a performance by the Umi Ogimi Trio and Juan Pastor's Chinchano.
The Umi Ogimi Trio is led by drummer Umi Ogimi and features Take Yokoyama on bass and Sharman Sangalang on tenor sax.
Juan Pastor's Chinchano is a unique jazz ensemble that fuses the harmonic palette of North American jazz with rhythmic concepts drawn from Central and South America. The group has been thrilling audiences since their formation in 2011 and it was a treat to hear them live as part of the series.
