JAZZ PHOTOGRAPHY RECAP: JoVia Armstrong's "Creative Theories" Performed at FSC by Harvey Tillis

May 5, 2025 - Fulton Street Collective, FSC, in Chicago presented a performance of JoVia Armstrong's "Creative Theories". Armstrong is a well-traveled musician, composer, producer, and educator from Detroit, Michigan. She won the 2014 Best Black Female Percussionist of the Year through the Black Women in Jazz Awards. Shortly after, in 2015, she became an official member of Chicago’s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). JoVia Armstrong Cajon Kit, percussion and electronics, Nicole Mitchell flute and electronics, Carmani Edwards electric bass, and Teiana Davis piano/keyboard. Visual artist Arthur Wright created original artwork in response to the music.
