Episode 021- Jazz this Week with Mike Jeffers



Published on August 19, 2016 founder of Chicago Jazz Magazine Mike Jeffers talks about upcoming performances happening in Chicago clubs this weekend. First up Mike discussed the performances this Friday and Saturday (August 19th & 20th) at the Green Mill Jazz Club featuring Grammy Award winning vocalist Kurt Elling and his group. The Green Mill is where Kurt got his start in Chicago performing every Wednesday night for many years. Now you can see him back in this legendary and intimate club.

Next up is a festival the Chicago Jazz Magazine is sponsoring in Kenosha called the Harbor Park Rhythm, Blues and Jazz Festival. This year's festival features music from the Rebirth Brass Band, NuBlue Band and Ivy Ford and JB Richie. All the proceeds benefit the Mahone Foundation in Kenosha.

Finally on This Week in Jazz, Mike discusses the upcoming performances for Charlie Parker Month happening all of August at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. Founder of the Jazz Showcase, Joe Segal, talks with Mike about the Gary Bartz Quartet performing Thursday - Sunday, including a Matinee, at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. For over 61 years Joe Segal and the Jazz Showcase in Chicago have celebrated the music of saxophonist Charlie Parker for the month of August.
