Acclaimed guitarist and composer Fareed Haque joins Mike Jeffers on CHICAGO MUSIC REVEALED to discuss two exciting Mandala Arts initiatives: the Red Line Project and the Mandala Makers Festival.

Presented by Mandala South Asian Performing Arts, the Red Line Project brings live jazz to public spaces along Chicago’s CTA Red Line. Inspired by the mandala as a symbol of unity and interconnectedness, the project combines jazz improvisation with global musical influences while creating unexpected moments of connection for commuters and neighborhood residents.

Fareed, who is helping curate the project, previews its culminating performance on Friday, October 16, at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.

He also discusses the three-day Mandala Makers Festival, held September 11–13, including his performance at Chicago’s iO Theater with two-time Grammy-winning percussionist Selvaganesh Vinayakram and bassist Alex Austin.

Watch the full CHICAGO MUSIC REVEALED interview to hear Fareed discuss the artists, collaborations and ideas behind these projects.
