Jazz vibraphonist Jim Cooper returns to Andy’s July 26 & 27!

There will be for two sets per night, 6:00pm and 8:15pm. Andy’s Jazz Club is located at 11 E. Hubbard Street in Chicago. Reservations are required. To make your reservation, visit

Since moving from Chicago to West Michigan in 1997, Jim’s gigs in Chicago has been rare. His current quintet features many of his musical cohorts from the 1980s: Art Davis on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dan Delorenzo on bass and Phil Gratteau on drums. The newcomer and youngest member of the quintet is guitarist Casey Nielsen. During their Andy’s performance, expect to hear originals by Cooper, the late pianist and composer Bob Dogan and Ira Sullivan, songs from his Denmark recordings and unique arrangements of jazz

standards.

Cooper was a regular fixture on the Chicago jazz scene during the 1980s and 90s. He released two recordings on Delmark Records with Ira Sullivan and performed at all the major jazz clubs. His collaboration with the late Ira Sullivan resulted in three recordings on Tough Town, Nutville and his most recent CD, Make Someone Happy on his own Jazmyn Records.

Cooper’s awards include the 2015 Best Jazz Composition award from ArtPrize in Grand Rapids for his song, “Third Circle.” His song “Mallethead” was also included in the book The City Was Yellow, Chicago Jazz and Improvised Music 1980-2010.
